Have you ever taken a drive up highway 62 and explored the high desert? The air is different up there, and some may call it magical. I am one of those folks! The real estate market is interesting up there. There are a lot of vacation rentals, but not many hotels and motels (or Holiday Inns). This begs the question where is the best place to stay?
The great influx of tourists that visit the high desert has given creative property owners the opportunity to create unique experiences that guests want to come back to. As a photographer I am often called to a private vacation home to come capture the family or couple as the are enjoying a landscape that is very different than their view at home. I love it when the client is staying at a home from the management company Homestead Modern.
These homes are always so well manicured, and everything from the landscaping to the decor of the interiors are well thought out. One of my favorite of their homes is actually in a town called Landers, which is north of Joshua Tree and east of Pioneertown. The property is called Goat Mountain Rising. This is a one bedroom place fit for an artist to escape the daily hustle and bustle, allowing their creativity to seep to the surface.
The living room is comfortable with soft pillows and lots of natural light from the massive windows. It is an open concept with a beautiful and well equipped kitchen and lots of room to prepare amazing dishes. The place is also not too far out of town, and so a guest could go out to eat at one of the numerous great places in the high desert. Yucca Kabob is actually my favorite, but I will leave those details for another blog.
Perhaps my favorite feature of this home is the nook in the bedroom. WOW! Below you'll see my client painting, and it makes sense as Goat Mountain Rising is for a creative soul. The dimensions of the nook and the shadows from the Joshua Tree outside are just a perfect combination for endless gazing and day dreaming in that beautiful soft simple chair.
The bed is soft with cozy bedding and the most adorable throw pillows. I could imagine waking up in this room to a beautiful sunrise with golden rays pouring into the room in the most gentle way. I'd make myself a cup of coffee and bring it back to the bedroom to enjoy it. The selection of books in the nook was also very tempting. I remember wishing I could peruse them just a bit.
We finished the session outdoors with the sunset, and the home has a space for outdoor dining, a fire pit and a pool! It was prime wildflower time too, and we just could not have asked for a better scene. It was a really fun photo session and when I left I got the feeling they felt at home on vacation. That is hard to do when traveling with kids, but they were magical, as was Goat Mountain Rising.
